Hi there, this depends on whether you are using the Wordpress.com blog, or the Wordpress.org installation.

If your blog is hosted on Wordpress.com (as in, your blog address is "SOMETHING.wordpress.com") then you aren’t allowed to install plug-ins or any themes that don’t appear in the "Presentation" tab. You could edit the CSS which would allow you to change some things, but you’d have to pay $15 and lots of things in your theme would not work. So basically, there’s just no way to do that.

On the other hand, if you are hosting the blog on your own server space and you use the downloaded installation from Wordpress.org, here’s what you do:

    1. Download the plugin.
    2. Unzip the plugin; there should be one folder containing all the plug-in’s files.
    3. Using an FTP client (you can download one for free, Google for "free FTP client") upload the folder into the remote plug-ins directory (wordpress -> wp-content -> wp-plugins).
    4. Log into your Wordpress dashboard, click Plug-ins.
    5. Your plug-in should be in the list now. Activate it.

The steps are the same for a theme, but it goes into the wp-themes directory instead of wp-plugins.

I hope this helps, good luck with your blog!
