Open Source is the future, simply stop buying into paying for software that is freely available and we’ll have an open world for computers, the way it was intended.

One of the statements you made is inaccurate. You said there’s no company behind much of the open source software. Often there is a company that backs a particular open source program. OpenOffice development was backed by Sun (StarOffice). Of course Sun may not help with OO problems, but there are consultants (commercial) willing to provide software support for a fee. Because source is available OpenSource is often easier to support commercially. Now if your goal is simply to sue somebody….

this will kill software development jobs.

This will not kill software development jobs.
This will HELP to find bugs in a very fast way(look Mozilla Firefox), plus, increasing jobs, because they love to do it. Future is coming, and we will evolve with more jobs, more than what we have now.
    Open Source is the key.

Although i don’t use Linux as my main desktop OS for various reasons. I always try and use FOSS whenever I can. Firefox, Open Office, VirtualBox, GIMP and Audacity are all FOSS packages that I use regularly.

However I’ve yet to come across a FOSS package which gives me the ease-of-use, functionality and performance I need for quick and simple H.264 video editing. Currently iMovie serves me just fine here.

Free Software actually creates more jobs, not take them away. Besides, most programmers work on in-house projects. The software used on your computer makes up only about 10% of the market.

“Downside is, there’s no company to call if the programs don’t work.”

What are you talking about? There are companies that do nothing but provide support for free software.

how will people sell softwares if they are free

    Comment | December 20, 2009

When talking about free software, free refers to freedom, not price. You have the freedom to run the program as you see fit, modify the source, and redistribute the original or modified versions. There are companies that sell free-software, such as Redhat (basic desktop is $80), and there is a large market in providing support for free software. It’s free-as-in-speech, not necessarily free-as-in-beer.

And like I said, most software is produced in-house, sold to a specific client.

god, don’t even try windows 7 until at least Service Pack 2. And if you must, at least try a Linux Distro first if you’re too strapped for cash to buy Windows 7. I would recommend Ubuntu. The easiest one to set up and use, has all the modern features any average user would need and it’s also free-as-in-beer. It’s not like I can tell you to download at piratebay from one of the trusted sources that have pink skulls next to their name which means the file is legit to download a rip of Windows 7.

My vote goes to Free Software and Open Source/code Programs.

Also I vote for Open and Public Servers/Nodes/Hubs where “Anybody” has Free and Open Access to Info such as educational, technical and structural information specially CURRENT.

The need to keep this kind of info in secret or under economic politics it is because of totalitarist/segregational/imperialist ideologies which is totally wrong from begining to end (Only One has this type of facultities)

    Free Gary Mckinnon
Gary Mckinnon hacked into NASA looking for evidence of ZPE (Zero Point Energy) and UFO coverups.

Currently, he is being extradited to the US for hacking into NASA and seeing files they photoshop so we don’t see the alien crafts.
During his hacking adventures, he saw spreadsheets called “Non Terrestrial Officers” with names and military ranks.

@Arkblu Yes, just what I was going to comment, I don’t need to now :-)
So bad that free has different meanings in English, but it more bad that someone that is using free software don’t even know what it means and why it’s important.
If he bring up the support issue, it’s just to buy a box and support is included.
But the support is very good even if downloaded for free, all projects has it’s forums and maillists, and rpm -qiv package gives the email address to the authors and they are helpful.
