Is there an open source network monitor software that can capture packets from a wireless router

Even though not connected to the wireless router? Is there an open source program that can do this. I know of several programs that capture packets, but you actually have to be connected to the wireless router.. When I say connected I’m not mean physically I mean connecting by putting the wep or wap key. I want to capture packets from my laptop.

Can I use the writing program Open Office to write a book?

I’m ready to write my first book (novel) but the only writing software my on my laptop is Open Office because it’s free. I’ve heard that authors like J. K. Rowling (Harry Potter series) used Microsoft Word to write.I can’t afford Microsoft Word and I was wondering if I could use the alternative: Open Office.

Thanks in advanced.

Side question: What writing software do you use?

How do I hook up a Linux computer to the internet using an XP host?

I am running Fedora Core 5 on my laptop and I have Windows XP Media Center on my desktop which is connected to the internet via LAN. I want to know how I can connect to the internet from my laptop using my desktop’s net connection. I already have all the physical connections set up (network adapters and cable) and I’m already using my network for file sharing. Please don’t offer any suggestions on using Linux as host (I already know how much safer it is). I want help on dealing with situation as it.

Incidentally, I’m also facing trouble using ICS from my XP partition on the laptop. It used to work flawlessly before, but I think after I installed Fedora it stopped working (although file and printer sharing areOK). I ran the ICS wizard again on each comp, but it didn’t work. Any suggestions on what might cause that?

I have a Dell Insipron laptop with windows vista. I used "wubi" to install Ubuntu onto my computer but it installed it in windows. I want Ubuntu to have its own partition and not be in windows. I have already set up a new partition but i dont know how to move my ubuntu to it. Should I just use windows explorer to transfer the ubuntu folder to the new partition or is there a procedure for it?
