What Do You Think about Ubuntu Linux?
twitter.com – facebook.com – My thoughts on Ubuntu… hah! I think it’s a Linux distro. I don’t have any issues with the operating system. As far as Linux distros go, it’s likely the easiest to use. Any time I say something about one distro instead of another, a war tends to break out. They can all agree, though, that Ubuntu is about as close as Linux has come to being mainstream thus far. chris.pirillo.com

@HHBones Wouldn’t every os only be as safe as the person using it?
sudo apt-get remove bad-arguments
sudo rm bin\etc\subscriptions\lockergnome.
I kid, I kid.
sudo apt-get install microsoft-windows-vista-without-servicepack-1
just kidding
I agree with Chris. I use Windows 7 as my main OS and run Ubuntu in a virtual machine. I also dual-boot with Ubuntu as well. I think what Chris says about Ubuntu not becoming mainstream in the desktop market is probably right on. I’d like to see it become more mainstream since it’s free and open source, but I just don’t see that happening any time soon as long as Apple and Microsoft exist (even Google could be a barrier for Ubuntu or linux in general)
From the sounds of this video, Chris hasn’t even used Ubuntu for more than 5 minutes, he sounds really n00by about it. I know I’m gonna have a load of his asskissers on my case, but hey ho.
@DaemonAnt I think you’ve hit the nail on the head, Chris likes Apple products and there’s nothing wrong with that, so he’s not going to give Linux an in-depth review but it doesn’t mean that his comments will ring true about Linux being more mainstream.
@TheArnabDas Yes, he really should take a look at Ubuntu 10.04 and I hope he does a proper review.
@sirvulcan12 I hope that’s sarcasm you’re using.
@Capricorn575 Yep. he’s not done any research at all, that’s what is coming across in his video anyway.
@Vaughnlesterinoz You’ll not regret making the switch to Linux.
@Martyj2009 Would you believe that the fact that it’s open source makes it more secure? Being open source means that anyone can patch the vulnerabilities. And pushing out the updates takes a couple of hours. How long does this take in proprietry sofware? From the time the vulnerability was found, to the patch being pushed, can take weeks.
Now who’s more secure?
@Capricorn575 You still have your source code out there. It may be faster to update but it’s easier to find the vulnerabilities.
@Martyj2009 Is that really a bad thing?
@scouser73ubuntu Cool, but from what I’ve seen on the Live CD, its going to take a little getting used to. I’ll be a newbie for a while. I mean I’ve been using Windows since Windows 95 and so I really feel comfortable with the OS. Not used to having to learn how to do everything again lol.
@Martyj2009 That is were you are wrong even Apple well tell you how wrong you are…
Here is a quote from Apples Web site “Apple believes that using Open Source methodology makes Mac OS X a more robust, secure operating system”
The same is true for Linux it is a more secure operating system because it is Open Source…
Mac OS start became more secure after Steve Jobs , NeXTSPEP OS and Apples MKLinux project … Mac OS started using BSD and other Open Source codes…
i love linux to. i dont get why sony took the other os feature away on the ps3. it didnt even give back my memory and i had a 40 gig. i got made so i upgraded my ps3 to 250 gig. then there going to add a feature for a TV NOBODY EVEN HAS.
Are you using computer? I doubt it.
Windows itself is not what makes it popular; it is the softwares. If Linux become main stream, they will be developed for Linux. Your stance is so naive, which makes me laugh.
Why do you hang yourself on Micro$oft so loyally, my friend? Just for some of the softwares? It does not worth it. Make the change! We will make all those softwares available on Linux, open source or proprietary.
Long live OSX
used all 3 os and feel more comfortable with windows and osx but mainly windows
windows 7 is a big improvement
@maw88ify I still think not. I understand that if there is a problem found easily that it can be fixed right then and there. You have to understand that if someone can just view how it works it is so much easier to break it. This isn’t just some noob talking. I know for a fact that if my source code went public vulnerabilities could be discovered. You cannot patch everything. No code is truly ever 100% secure.
@scouser73ubuntu Nice to know that there are other people from around Liverpool that like linux, ha ha. (I’m from widnes).
I love Ubuntu, it’s my main operating system for several years.
ubuntu is great, but i just wish more people made more programs for ubuntu
This guy does not know what he is talking about.
