Any idea why Ubuntu 7.10 does not ask to set a root password during the installation time?
That’s annoying because now I am trying to install a few packages and a "SU" password is required. The installation only ask to setup a user name and password.Any idea how I can setup a root password now that Ubuntu is installed?

How do you connect to the internet wirelessly with Ubuntu?
I’m running Ubuntu 10.04 on my netbook, but I cannot figure out how to set up a connection to my modem. I’ve looked all over the internet, but there seems to be no answer.
I have downloaded the netbook version, but whenever I click the icon, nothing shows up but "Configure VPN".

Ubuntu install, can I install on one computer, then move the drive to another computer to use it?
Was curious if I could install Ubuntu on one computer, then pull the hard drive out and put it into another computer to use it?
Reason is the other computer doesn’t have a CD player or a floppy drive.
So just curious if anyone has tried this method, and if ubuntu does work or if it requires a lot of tinkering to get it running since it was installed one on machine and actually booting and running on another.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
How can you open ubuntu in a window (like running an application) in windows 7?
I saw this kid in my chem class sitting in front of me had windows 7 on his computer but he could open ubuntu like a program in a window. There was an icon in the taskbar, I think, with the ubuntu logo and it opened up a window where you could use the linux OS. How can I do this, and is it possible with the new 10.10 version of ubuntu?
