How do I apply a purchased WordPress theme to my blog?

I am going to purchase a theme from themeforest.com. How do I apply it to my blog? Do I have to purchase the 30 dollar customization option through WordPress? Can I apply the theme through the website, or do I have to download the very confusing server thing?
