I’ve got some plugins installed and activate but now I’m haven’t the faintest clue what to do to use them. What buttons do I push, where do I go in the control panel? Help!

I have no clue how to work with open source?
I downloaded a program (or I thought it was a program) to archive my old entries in my blog and transfer into hard copies. The description says it’s open source. I opened the folder and all that’s inside of it are PHP files. I have no clue how to "activate" or open these files, let alone use them. Do I need to download a specific application? Do I need to have Linux?
How do I install Ubuntu on my computer?
I have heard Ubuntu is very efficient and all, and I was thinking about changing from windows Vista to Ubuntu, but the truth is that, I have absolutely no clue as for how to do it, can anyone help me with this?
Anybody know how to get the wordpress plugins that lets you do an opt in?
So I have been using WordPress for a couple weeks, I am really getting used to it but I have no clue how to add an opt in. If anybody has any information on how to do this please drop it.
