WordPress Tutorial – Make a Static Page Your Home/Front Page

NOTE: Updated tutorial at bit.ly for WordPress version 2.7. This Beginner-level WordPress Tutorial by Mark McLaren of McBuzz Communications shows you how to make a static WordPress Page your home page (also called “front” page). The default WordPress home page in most themes shows the chronological blog post entries with the most recent post at the top. You can create a static page using the Dashboard – Write – Page, and then tell WordPress to use that page as your home page (using Options – Reading – Front Page). This WordPress tutorial also shows you how to change the order of page navigation tabs or links.

How do I hook up a Linux computer to the internet using an XP host?

I am running Fedora Core 5 on my laptop and I have Windows XP Media Center on my desktop which is connected to the internet via LAN. I want to know how I can connect to the internet from my laptop using my desktop’s net connection. I already have all the physical connections set up (network adapters and cable) and I’m already using my network for file sharing. Please don’t offer any suggestions on using Linux as host (I already know how much safer it is). I want help on dealing with situation as it.

Incidentally, I’m also facing trouble using ICS from my XP partition on the laptop. It used to work flawlessly before, but I think after I installed Fedora it stopped working (although file and printer sharing areOK). I ran the ICS wizard again on each comp, but it didn’t work. Any suggestions on what might cause that?

JAWS, Open Office 3, and Windows 7

This is a good test showing how JAWS (the text to talk software interface, works under Windows 7 and Open Office.

I decided to see how Open Office’s word processor would work in Windows 7, since I prefer Open Office over Microsoft Office. Windows 7 handles Open Office version 3 without any issues. However, JAWS will need some scripting in order to see the various buttons in dialog boxes. Menus work fine, though. I only demonstrate the one issue JAWS has which is navigating the spell checking & other dialog boxes.

Own Your Blog or Else! Easy WordPress Install

Watch this video tutorial and see how simple it is to get online with a blog today! Create a blog using free software from wordpress.org and get tips on why, if you want to become a serious blogger, if you want to make money with your blog or, if you want to control your blog, then using free blogs such as blogger.com or wordpress.com is NOT an option … You must own your blog. Here’s why …if you use hosted solutions such as blogger.com or wordpress.com, they can delete your site without your permission and there is nothing you can do about it. Also, using hosted sites to host your blog means that you have limited opportunities of monetizing your blog because some of them don’t allow you to make the most of advertising with say Google AdSense. WordPress.com for example makes it very clear that it is against their terms of service to commercialize your WordPress.com hosted blog by hosting paid advertising and will result in your blog being deleted. In fact, I’ve just been reading one forum where there is a reader called “Rainmaker” and he seems to have made it his job to report people who are commercializing their WordPress blogs and within no time, their sites have been deleted by WordPress. So don’t say you haven’t been warned. What you need to do is go to WordPress.org and download their free software and then upload the software to the server where you have your own hosting account, using your own domain name. Alternatively, you can use the automated feature found

Is Firepow Any Good for Creating WordPress Blogs?

Hi there,

Does Firepow make WordPress blogs easy to set up, or do you already need a lot of WordPress experience to use it?

I hate dealing with html and coding and stuff. I really want to start setting up WordPress blogs because everybody says they can be so profitable. But I have a nervous breakdown every time I try to figure out what template to use, how the heck to upload plugins, and all that stuff. I was wondering if anybody here has found that the new firepow tool is any good? The sales page says you can easily put together WordPress blogs from within one control panel but I’m wondering how much I need to know first (about code and plugins and all that jazz) to be able to use the software. I don’t want to invest in something only to find out that I have to already be a rocket scientist before I can use the program! LOL I’m looking for something that is for us stupid types who aren’t good with code, etc. Thanks for any help from more experienced users.
